Clearance designed for chassis movement
The cover maintains 1/4–1/2 inch of clearance to prevent contact with the plastic bumper. Because the skid mounts to the frame while the bumper mounts to the body, this gap accommodates chassis flex and relative movement.
The cover also provides a small buffer in low-speed rear impacts.
