Toyota Tacoma Alpine 6 Speaker Install Guide | 2016-2023

Here is a simple and easy breakdown of how to install you new 
Alpine 6 Speaker Plug & Play Bundle from Trail Grid Pro!

Installation Video

Tools needed:
  • Ratchet wrench (manual or powered)
  • 10mm socket
  • 10mm box wrench
  • Panel removal tool
  • Zip ties
  • Cutters
  • Phillips head screwdriver

Step 1

Remove the dash tweeters:

  • Remove the covers on the grab handle located on the A pillars and remove the two 10mm bolts.
  • Remove the A pillar trim
  • Remove the tweeter grille cover using a panel removal tool and pry up to release the retaining clips.
    • Remove the light sensor on the passenger side.
  • Remove the two 10mm bolts that secure the factory tweeter.
  • Disconnect the speaker connector by pressing in the tab.

Repeat the process for the other tweeter.

Step 2

Installing the Alpine dash tweeters:

  • In the box you will find the provided 2.75 inch Trail Grid Pro tweeter adapter.
    • Place the tweeter adapter on top of the tweeter, lining up the four pre-drilled holes.
  • Use the provided #4-40 phillips head bolts and nuts to secure the tweeter to the adapter.
    • Place the bolt up through the hole from the bottom and secure the nut on top.
  • Attach the provided speaker wiring adapter to the tweeter by connecting the 1/8th inch and 1/4 inch spade connectors.
  • Line up the two factory mounting hole and use the factory 10m bolts to secure the tweeter assembly.
  • Replace the tweeter grille and the A-pillar trim.
  • Secure the A-pillar trim with the two factory 10mm bolts and close the covers. 

Repeat the process for the other tweeter.

Step 3

Removing the front door panel:

  • Remove the trim panel by the mirror by pulling out.
    • Remove the white retaining clips and place them back on the panel.
  • Remove the pop clip under the trim panel that you just removed.
    • Press in the center and than use a panel removal tool to pull out the entire clip.
  • Remove the cover panel located behind the door handle.
    • Using a pane removal tool, gently pry from the lock button side.
    • Remove the phillips head screw located behind the cover.
  • Remove the phillips had screw from inside the door grab handle.
    • Remove the carpet insert and the phillips head screw.
  • Remove the switch panel by prying straight up.
    • Remove all connections from the back of the window switch panel. 
  • Remove the door panel.
    • Using your fingers, begin pulling out towards the bottom of the door. There are clips all the way around the outside that need to be removed. Once you start pulling you will hear them release.
    • Lift the door panel up and off the window lip to remove.
    • Remove the door handle and door lock cable. Remove the retainer from the door, rotate and lift the ball end p and out of the door lock mechanism.
    • Check to make sure that none of the clips are still stuck in the door. If they are remove them using a panel removal tool and place them back in the door panel.

Step 4

Removal and replacement of the 6x9 door speaker:

  • Disconnect the factory speaker wire from the top of the speaker by depressing the tab.
  • Using a 10mm socket, remove the four screws that secure the factory speaker.
  • Use the provided Trail Grid Pro 6x9 speaker adapter ring and mount it to the door using the provided 1/4-14 course thread screws.
  • Connect the 1/8th inch and 1/4 inch spade connectors to the speaker.
  • Route speaker wire through the slot on the mounting ring and connect the factory speaker wire.
  • Use four of the provided black phillips head screws to secure the speaker to the mounting ring.

Repeat the process for the other 6x9 speaker

Step 5

Replace the front door panel:

  • Reconnect the door lock and door handle cables. The cable with the white plastic goes on the top and the green goes on the bottom. 
  • Hang the door panel on the window edge and lower in to place. When the phillips head screw holes are lined up, push the panel into place securing the retaining clips around the edge of the door. 
  • Replace the door switch panel. Reconnect all the connectors and push into place.
  • Secure the phillips head screw behind the door handle and the phillips head screw inside the door grab handle. 
  • Replace the grab handle insert and the cover behind the door handle. 
  • Replace the pop clip on the edge of the door panel near the side mirror.
    • Push the middle pin back out the top of the retainer, insert the retainer and push the middle pin in until it is flush. 
  • Replace the trim panel by the mirror by pushing into place. 

Step 6

Removing the rear door panel:

  • Remove the pop clip along the outside of the door on the plastic trim panel.
  • Remove the cover behind the door handle by prying out gently. Remove the phillips head screw being the cover. 
  • Remove the phillips head screws from the rear door grab handle.
  • Remove the door switch panel by gently prying up. Disconnect the window switch connector.
  • Using your fingers, begin pulling out towards the bottom of the door. There are clips all the way around the outside that need to be removed. Once you start pulling you will hear them release.
  • Lift the door panel up and off the window lip to remove.
  • Remove the door handle and door lock cable. Remove the retainer from the door, rotate and lift the ball end p and out of the door lock mechanism.
  • Check to make sure that none of the clips are still stuck in the door. If they are remove them using a panel removal tool and place them back in the door panel.

Step 7

Removal and replacement of the 6.5 inch rear door speaker:

  • Disconnect the factory speaker wire from the top of the speaker by depressing the tab.
  • Using a 10mm socket, remove the three screws that secure the factory speaker.
  • Use the provided Trail Grid Pro 6.5 inch speaker adapter ring and mount it to the door using the provided 1/4-14 course thread screws.
  • Connect the 1/8th inch and 1/4 inch spade connectors to the speaker
  • Route speaker wire through the slot on the mounting ring and connect the factory speaker wire.
  • Use four of the provided black phillips head screws to secure the speaker to the mounting ring.

Repeat the process for the other 6.5 inch speaker

Step 8

Replacing the rear door panel:

  • Reconnect the door lock and door handle cables. The cable with the white plastic goes on the top and the green goes on the bottom. 
  • Hang the door panel on the window edge and lower in to place. When the phillips head screw holes are lined up, push the panel into place securing the retaining clips around the edge of the door. 
  • Replace the door switch panel. Reconnect all the connectors and push into place.
  • Secure the phillips head screw behind the door handle and the phillips head screw inside the door grab handle. 
  • Replace the grab handle insert and the cover behind the door handle. 
  • Replace the pop clip on the edge of the door panel.
    • Push the middle pin back out the top of the retainer, insert the retainer and push the middle pin in until it is flush. 
  • Replace the trim panel on the edge of the door by pushing into place. 

Step 9

Test your new Alpine speakers!
