2010-2024 4Runner Gear Plate Installation Guide

Welcome to the installation guide for your 2010–2024 Toyota 4Runner Gear Plate from Trail Grid Pro! This step-by-step guide is designed to make the installation process as smooth as possible, whether you're a seasoned DIYer or tackling your first upgrade.

This guide is designed for a 4runner with No Factory Slide Out Tray or 3rd Row Seating.

🛠️ Tools Needed

  • 10 mm socket
  • Ratchet wrench (Manual or powered)
  • Panel removal tool (Plastic preferred)

📝Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Disassembling The Cargo Area

  • Using a pry tool or panel removal tool lift the covers on the D-rings. 
    • Pry from the side closest to the D-ring to open.
  • Use a 10 mm socket to remove the 10 mm bolt from each D-ring. 
  • Lift plastic D-rings housings out of the floor trim.
  • If you would like to reuse the D-rings during the installation of your gear plate:
    • Remove the keeper washer from the 10 mm bolt.
    • Remove the D-ring from the plastic housing by prying out with panel tool
    • Set the D-rings to the side for installation. 
      • The factory 10 mm bolts ad plastic housing will not be re-used. 
  • Lift up on the floor trim to release the retainers. 
    • The floor trim will not be used for installation. 

Step 2: Installation Of Gear Plate

  • Take this time to clean the cargo area and carpet before installation of the gear plate. 
  • Insert the gear plate with the 2 recessed mounting locations facing up and towards the back seat. 
  • Line up the mounting holes in the gear plate with the factory D-ring mounting points. 
  • Mount the gear plate:
    • Option 1 (No D-rings):
      • Use the provided 10 mm bolts and washers to secure the gear plate to the points where the D-rings were mounted. 
    • Option 2 (D-rings)
      • Place the provided 10 mm bolts through the D-ring  and than secure the gear plate to the points where the D-rings were mounted. 
    • We recommend using either blue or red lock-tite.
