Here is a simple and easy breakdown of how to install your new
Morimoto Evo Headlights!
Installation Video
Tools Needed:
- Panel removal tool
- Ratchet wrench (Powered or manual)
- 10mm Socket
- Phillips head screwdriver
Step 1
First of all, check the packaging and make sure it hasn’t been damaged; then check out the parts to make sure they are intact and ready to go. You will have:
- Left & right headlight assemblies
- DRL harness with fuse
- Mode selector keys
- 2 red, 2 blue, 2 green & 2 black keys
- 2 adapter harnesses
- 2 resistors
Step 2
Removing your front bumper:
- Open and secure the hood of your 4Runner.
- Remove the trim panel that covers the radiator by pushing the center of all the pop clips and use the panel removal tool to remove them.
- Lift the panel off.
- Remove the 3 screws from the driver side fender using a 10 mm socket.
- Lift the bumper off the top tab in the fender and pull out to loosen the bumper.
- Remove the 6 screws along the bottom of the front bumper using a 10 mm socket.
- Remove the 3 screws from the passenger side fender using a 10 mm socket.
- Lift the bumper off the top tab in the fender and pull out to loosen the bumper.
- Remove the 2 push pin retainers, these are located on the top of the bumper near each headlight.
- Use a pry tool to release the center pin and lift the retainer out.
- Remove the 4 push pin retainers, these are located on the top of the bumper.
- Use a pry tool to release the center pin and lift the retainer out.
- Disconnect the connector for the collision sensor by depressing the tab to remove.
- Using a 10 mm socket remove the bolt near the hood latch.
- At this point the bumper is ready to come off, so support the bumper while you remove the screw.
- Once the bumper is free, reach behind and unplug the fog light connectors by depressing the tab to remove.
Step 3
Remove the headlights:
- Remove the four 10 mm screws holding the headlights to the truck.
- 1 on the front corner
- 1 on the top center of the headlight
- 1 near the fender hidden under a piece of trim.
- Last 1 is on the bottom of the headlight, where the bumper snaps into the fender.
- Pull the headlight straight out and disconnect all the plugs on the backside.
- Repeat the process for the other headlight.
Step 4
Transfer the support bracket:
- Remove the black support at the bottom of the headlight.
- Use a phillips head screwdriver to remove three screws.
- Transfer the support bracket to the new Morimoto Evo headlights and secure with the 3 phillips head screws.
Step 5
Installing the mode selector keys:
- Select the DRL color and turn signal blink function:
- Red: White DRL, Fade off turn signal
- Blue: White DRL, Sequential turn signal
- Green: Amber DRL, Fade off turn signal
- Black: Amber DRL, Sequential turn signal
- Connect your preferred selector key to the back of each headlight.
Step 6
Installing the DRL harness:
- Use the provided fuse tap to connect to the main fuse box under the hood.
- The kit comes with 2 different sized fuse taps, a short and long, use the appropriate fuse tap for the location in the fuse box.
- We recommend using the 10 amp INJ fuse to connect the fuse tap.
- You can using a fuse location that has switched power, meaning that it only receives power when the vehicle is turned on.
- Locate your desired fuse location and remove the fuse.
- Insert the fuse that was removed into the fuse tap.
- Place the fuse tap with both fuses into the location that the original fuse was removed.
- Route the fuse tap harness out of the fuse panel cover.
- You can cut a small notch in the side of the cover to accommodate the wire passing through.
- Connect the DRL harness to the fuse tap harness.
- The DRL harness has three male connections, use the one that points a different direction from the other two to connect to the DRL harness.
- Route the DRL harness towards the driver side headlight and continue running the longer end towards the passenger side head light.
Step 7
Connecting the headlights:
- Make the connections from the headlight harness to the vehicle connectors.
- They are keyed plugs, meaning that they will only connect to their specific connector.
- Connect the DRL harness to the back of each headlight.
Halogen Low Beam & Halogen High Beam Factory Headlights:
- Use the halogen adapter harness and match the four connectors on it to the four factory headlight connectors on the vehicle.
- Connect the resistor to the single remaining connector.
- Secure the resistor using the attached magnet.
LED Low beam & LED High Beam Factory Headlights:
- Use the LED adapter harness and match the three grey connectors on it to the three factory headlight connectors on the vehicle.
- Connect the resistor to the adapter harness.
- Secure the resistor using the attached magnet.
- You will have one factory headlight connectors left disconnected.
- This connector is not used, place the provided cap over the unused connector.
LED Low Beam & Halogen High Beam Factory Headlights:
- Use the LED adapter harness and remove the cap on the black connector.
- Match the four factory headlight connectors to the four connectors from the adapter harness.
- Connect the resistor to the adapter harness.
- Secure the resistor using the attached magnet.
Step 8
Installing the headlight:
- Place the headlight into the truck, lining up the mounting tabs with the mounting holes on the truck.
- Secure each of the 4 mounting locations with the factory bolts.
Step 9
Replacing the bumper:
- Hang the bumper along the support and replace the 10 mm bolt near the hood latch to hold the bumper in place.
- Reconnect your fog lights.
- Work the ends of the bumper into place and secure the top fender tab on each side.
- Continue lining up the 3 screws on each fender.
- Press the bumper into place, it should snap in place around the fender and headlight.
- Replace the 4 push pin retainers along the grille support.
- Replace the 2 push pin retainers on the top of the bumper near the corner of the headlight.
- Replace the 3 screws in each fender.
- Replace the 6 bolts on the bottom of the bumper.
- Reconnect the collision sensor connector.
Step 10
Adjusting the headlights:
- You will want to adjust the headlights to ensure that they are aimed correctly.
- Follow the steps in the video below to properly aim your headlights.
- Now that your headlights are aligned, replace the trim panel that covers your radiator
- Press the center of the retainers up, insert the retainers in the trim panel and depress the center till they are flush with the retainer.
- Close the hood.
